COURSE UPDATE

It seems we have certainly escaped from the thrunderstorms that were forecast on Wednesday and Thursday,  with Brisbane and south of Tweed Heads receiving most of the deluge.  The team have certainly been busy catching up on mowing with all surfaces being cut twice this week.  The silt damage on the front left of the 3rd green has shown strong signs of recovery thus far therefore we will nurture this area back to full health rather than re-turf.  Matt Baldock our Irrigationist has been busy this week with 5 sprinklers being vandalized during the period the course was closed and at $400 per sprinkler its hard to fathom how someone would get a kick out of doing this.  Our new cart directional signage has started to be rolled out with 6 holes being completed.

COURSE UPDATE

Well what can you say after a week like that, I could think of a few things but I better not.  With 269mm of rain in 5 days the course was never going to escape unscathed, especially with 180mm falling in 24 hours!   Wednesday was the first day the crew could access the course and begin the massive clean-up left from the flood waters, which seems to be one of the most damaging in some time.  After the initial flooding the water level was kept high for a couple of days from the consistent rain we received post flood and caused several areas around the course to brown off, with the third green having a 1 inch thick silt layer on the front section of the green which will need to be re-turfed.  All surfaces have received their first cut and bunkers will be repaired next week

SPRINKLER YARDAGE

Currently all sprinklers are receiving new printed sprinkler yardage and yes, we were a bit behind the times hand printing the yardage

OVERNIGHT RAINFALL

The course has received 27mm of rainfall over the past 2 days.  Consequently, carts on paths on the front nine and the back nine as normal.  All rough has received its first herbicide application with a visible browning off starting to occur

HERBICIDE APPLICATIONS

During the next 4 weeks, all course rough will be recieving several applications of herbicide.  This will cause the rough to turn brown but the colour will return shortly after applications have been completed

GYPSUM APPLICATION

This month the greens are recieving an application of gypsum.  One downside to using recycled water is it has high levels of sodium, which over time, builds up in the soil profile after each watering cycle and deteriorates the soil structure causing slow water infiltration, impaired oxygen movement and a reduction in nutrient availability to the turf.   Calcium, gypsum's main component, solubilises after application and exchanges with sodium ions on soil surfaces which allows the sodium to be removed from the soil profile by irrigation water.

DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS

The cart path section, 30m from the 1st red tee has received additional drainage to remove surface water after rain.  This section has always been troublesome, even after a small amount of rain
