The question ‘where to drop’ has raised its ugly head again in relation to our bunker
on the 15th hole adjoining the lake 150 meters from the green on the right side of the fairway. All water hazards at The Colonial are ‘lateral water hazards’. So your options for a ball that has gone through this bunker and into the lake are as follows :
1. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played. (This could be from the 15th tee ).
2. Drop a ball behind the water hazard (and the bunker in this case) keeping the point where the ball had entered the lateral water hazard between you and the hole. There is no restriction as to how far you go back on this line. (Usually far enough to get a flat lie or on the fairway).
3. Drop a ball within 2 club lengths of the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the lateral water hazard but no closer to the pin. (In this case that point would most likely be in the bunker).
4. Drop a ball within 2 club lengths of the point on the opposite side of the lake which is equidistant from the hole. (i.e. on the 17th side of the lake).

A question we constantly get around the course is where exactly your place in the field is??
The quick answer to this question is directly behind the group in front of you. Not the much believed in front of the group behind you.
If all players could keep this in the back of their mind everyone will move through there round enjoyably.

What a month June was with some perfect golfing weather providing everyone with the opportunity to get out and play the course in great condition. On the course it was a very busy month with two honour board events being decided. The first Saturday of the month saw Barry Kearney and Darren Craig battle it out in the final of the Individual Matchplay. The match was a thriller with an extra hole required to decide the match, Darren eventually prevailing winning on the 19th Hole. Some outstanding golf was played during the final none more so than on the 4th Hole where Darren popped it straight in the hole off the tee, Barry did have a put to halve the hole but it just slid past. Congratulations to both players for a fantastic event.
The other event to be decided was the foursome’s championship which again was a very tight battle. Winning the Championship for 2010 was the Team of Scott McLean & Paul Burnell who claimed the title on a countback from Jim Kaliviotis & Phil Snow. The Nett event went to Jon Palk & Jeff Quick who finished with 70, Brett Mostyn and Mick Vanitallie were the runners up with 70.5. Congratulations to all winners and just a reminder that the Club Championships commence on Saturday 31st July with entry forms now available in the golfshop.
In other news the members golf day is fast approaching and if i could ask all members that are interested in playing to please register their interest in the golfshop for catering purposes. The day is shaping up well with the event to be an Irish Stableford, on the day there will be plenty of activities away from the golf and i hope to see as many people as possible at the event.
I wish all members the best for the upcoming club championships and hope to see everyone out and about during July.

The 23rd July is fast approaching so get your teams of 4 together and register in the golfshop. The prices start at $20 for a gold plus member and include your cart, comp and bbq dinner afterwards. There will be plenty of entertainment on the day with The Colonial Shootout, raffles etc along with the golf. If we could get as many people to register in the next couple of weeks to get an idea for catering it would be greatly appreciated. We hope to see you there.
