Funniest Golfing Moment: During our one of many $10 trips playing with Rabbit and Macka. Rabbit was excited that Macka was using a distance finder and arriving on a part 3 hole,Rabbit walks over to the buggy to check the distance. Has a good look at the gadget and at the hole, goes to his bag and changes clubs. After his usual ritual before hitting the ball (listening for every noise five kilometers away, etc) he hits the ball as clean as the pro, but the ball only went half way. In his amazement he just could not understand why his ball did not go very far. He confirms that the distance finder showed a distance of 80 meters to the flag… Macka grabs the gadget to check the distance, and YES it was 80 meters but to the previous hole flag as Rabbit forgot to press the button to go to the next hole.. which was around 155 meters long. We could not stop laughing for the next few holes and Rabbit did not rely on looking at the distance finder again!

The question ‘where to drop’ has raised its ugly head again in relation to our bunker
on the 15th hole adjoining the lake 150 meters from the green on the right side of the fairway. All water hazards at The Colonial are ‘lateral water hazards’. So your options for a ball that has gone through this bunker and into the lake are as follows :
1. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played. (This could be from the 15th tee ).
2. Drop a ball behind the water hazard (and the bunker in this case) keeping the point where the ball had entered the lateral water hazard between you and the hole. There is no restriction as to how far you go back on this line. (Usually far enough to get a flat lie or on the fairway).
3. Drop a ball within 2 club lengths of the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the lateral water hazard but no closer to the pin. (In this case that point would most likely be in the bunker).
4. Drop a ball within 2 club lengths of the point on the opposite side of the lake which is equidistant from the hole. (i.e. on the 17th side of the lake).

After the round all players are invited back into the clubhouse where the game will be shown on the big screen, between 1-2pm there will also be a complimentary pie buffet where players can help themselves to a pie, mountains of mashed potato, peas and gravy just before the first bounce. adminCourse Maintenance, From the course, Newsletters
With days becoming warmer and nights milder, soil temperatures are on the rise resulting in slightly increased growth throughout all of the golf course and associated gardens.
Application of fertilsers to fairways, greens and tees will aid spring growth and assist in maintaining healthy turf leading into summer. Light dustings of sand on greens will assist in providing a good putting surface.
Some gardens have been replanted and mulched around greens and tees. This work will be ongoing and continue around our usual maintenance schedule.
Many thanks to golfers who utilise the sand buckets provided for use in divot repair. Studies have shown that turf will repair 9 times faster when divots are filled.
We hope that all golfers enjoy their game and the beautiful sunny spring days at The Colonial.
